Port Partners,

As we continually seek improved transparency and communications with our customers and stakeholders, we are pleased to announce the following:

In partnership with EZ Texting (https://www.eztexting.com/), The Port of Virginia (POV) is launching a new text alert notification system, designed to keep you informed regarding daily operating schedules, processes and conditions at all POV terminals and offices. This system is offered to all stakeholders free-of-charge**.

To subscribe, please follow these simple steps on your text-enabled mobile phone:

  1. Address a new text message to the number 474747
    1. If you are in the trucking industry, text POVTrucker to 474747
    2. If you work for an ocean carrier/ shipping line, text POVShipline to 474747
    3. If you work for a beneficial cargo owner (BCO), text POVBCO to 474747
    4. If you don’t work in one of those industry segments, but wish to receive alerts, text POVPartner to 474747

** Registering for multiple industry segments will result in duplicate text messages.

You will receive a confirmation text, asking you to provide additional voluntary information:  Name, email address and company/employer.  Supplying these optional information elements will allow us to serve you better, going forward.  While the vast majority of text alerts will be delivered to all subscribers, identifying your industry segment allows us to periodically target specific information at specific audiences.

The new text alert platform will “Go Live” before the end of March.  The port’s legacy text alert platform (Twitter – @VATruckerAlerts) will be phased-out by May 1, 2020.

Thank you for supporting The Port of Virginia.  We look forward to serving you through this new communication tool.

** Note:  Data charges may apply.  Consult your wireless provider.
