Subject: Bobtail & Bare Chassis Gate Processing Changes for N4

Goal: To inform the trucking community/motor carriers of changes as it relates to bobtail and bare-chassis processing.

Effective Saturday, June 21, all bobtails and bare chassis will be required to access Norfolk International Terminals (NIT) through the Main Gate interchange lanes.

Pick-ups will no longer be processed at the Customer Service Building. Trucks bobtailing out must use an out-gate lane or a satellite lane to exit. You will receive your final EIR (Equipment Interchange Receipt) when you exit through the out-gate lane or satellite lane.

While we understand that this is a major change for bobtails, this will allow us to more accurately measure turn time and ensure inventory accuracy.

Bobtails that bypass the interchange will be asked to return to the Main Gate for processing. If you attempt to exit the terminal without receiving your final EIR, your transaction will not be considered complete and you will be asked to return to the main gate for processing.
